Minor League Y Draft Recap

Welcome back to another year of relegations. This league finished 2nd in the slow draft but just by a hair over Minor League X. The draft started a little heavy on the RBs and then we saw some WR runs later pick up the pace. Overall it was a fairly balanced draft.

Camino Calderon – 1st Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

I like the first 4 picks. You can never be upset with Mahommes. Then picking up Najee and Ekeler with ARob in the 4th is a solid start. Then we get a little bit hopefully with Lawrence and Chase. I think both may struggle early as rookies. Picking up Damien Harris and AJ Dillon may be enough to keep the flex spot filled. I think those two middle picks may put the team in a hole after the first few weeks. It is hard enough to get into the top 4 without giving up games early. It is a solid team but right now it isn’t quite enough for the Champions League.

Topp Gunner – 2nd Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

Brady has to start declining at some point right? Well maybe not. But Matt Ryan lost one of his two big targets and I am not one that believes Pitts will be putting up 100 yd games week 1. Waiting on the RB2 also left this team with a couple of players in questionable committees. Javonte Williams and Chase Edmonds both could be great or rather disappointing. I think this team really needs Deshaun Watson to find a starting role somewhere to get to the playoffs. Otherwise, I think some gaps are going to open up without a clear way to fill them.

Bob Loblaw’s Law Blog – 3rd Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

Bob is back picking from the 3rd spot in Minor League Y for the second straight year. While a lot of teams were grabbing RBs, this team waiting a bit. The RB2 is going to have to be filled by Henderson or Mike Davis. Neither have really proven to be superstars and both have seen competition brought in for the role. It isn’t a lot of competition but it is something. The team does have 4 starting QBs with Tyrod and Bridgewater and that might just be a trade piece that is required to get this team to the playoffs. But for now I think the RB room is going to have problems here.

EdRooneyJR III – 4th Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League

Another team waiting on RBs, but this is even worse. Michael Carter, Pollard, or Rashad Penny needs to pick up the RB2 flag and charge into the battle. Could Michael Carter be the lead back in NY? Sure. Could Zeke and Carson get hurt? Also possible. But there is a huge hole here and something needs to happen. The Rice a Rooney’s did pick up Winston but he may not be a valuable trade piece until later in the season. And by that time it will be too late.

El Camino – 5th Pick Prediction – Champions League

QB heavy is an understatement here. After picking up Josh Allen and Herbert is rounds 1 and 2, El Camino picked up Fields and Zach Wilson. Talk about trade potential in the future. The only glaring hole for this team is really at TE as they enter with Gesicki and an injured Irv Smith. RB and WR doesn’t have a lot of great depth but I don’t mind entering the season with the two top options they have at either position as long as Swift is healthy. I don’t think this will be the final roster the teams heads to the playoffs with but it has the value to make a run and get into the playoffs.

gkuster – 6th Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League

This team went QB light. So we expect to see the other positions filled with great players. Mark Andrews is above average but not a superstar so far. Hopkins is great but Godwin was WR 31 last year. And I am not convinced CEH is really an every down back that can take advantage of the KC offense. Then you are left with only Baker and Carr at QB. I just down see where the value was gained by waiting on QB. Then the late picks don’t offer much upside in my opinion. I think the team will put up some point but lack the punch to get the W week in and week out.

LJFresh – 7th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

This team also waited on QB and then tried to load up late. Unfortunately, it looks like Cam Newton, Drew Lock, and Mills aren’t going to have starting roles. The team does have 4 starting RBs. I think one of these will need to find a new home at some point this season And that is the difference to the previous team that will keep this squad in the Minors. But I don’t like having Big Ben as QB1 without a starting QB3 on the team.

Marmite Madness – 8th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

It is an interesting team to get Kyler and Kittle with two solid RBs. These aren’t my favorite WRs to pair with that start. Mike Evans was so dependent on TDs last year. Lockett disappeared for a lot of the season. And OBJ hasn’t been relevant for a while now. I do like the Lance pickup with Garoppolo and Dalton. Otherwise, the late-round depth doesn’t offer a whole lot. I think this team will come up just short of getting to the Champions League.

BTH – 9th Pick Prediction – Champions League

Clearly, this manager is a big fan of BTS, but not a big fan of loading up on QBs. Danny Dimes is the 2nd QB with no one behind him. Otherwise I like the Melvin Gordon pickup as a RB3 in the 7th. I think he could still get good fantasy points this year. Jamal Williams could also have some good weeks. I definitely didn’t want to draft both of them with the next pick. I am going to believe Danny Dimes fills in as QB2 and this team has a solid year.

Commissioner – 10th Pick Prediction – Champions League

Well this didn’t go as planned after the second round. In the third round I wanted a second RB, but I thought one from the next tier would make it back. They didn’t. Then I thought the next time around I would grab one. And so on and so forth until Kenyan Drake became my RB2 in the 9th. Ugh. But maybe it is going to work out. Conner or Lindsay could become the lead back for their respective teams. The rest of the team will be enough against the lack luster competition in a minor league to get me back to the Champions League.

Ismellolives – 11th Prediction – Amateur Hour League

The winner of this year’s slowest slow drafter award goes to…..The Olives!!!! Congratulations! Maybe alerts and notifications weren’t working. Maybe there was a lot of thinking going on. Who knows for certain. The league to draft the slowest this year was the Amateur Hour League and that is where this team is headed. The RB1 and RB2 are on the same team. And expecting Kyle Pitts to be dominant year 1 seems a bit hopeful. Will Michael Thomas help later? Probably but that may just be too late for this team.

Stueyh – 12th Prediction – Amateur Hour League

This might be the hardest team to look at right now. JK Dobbins and Etienne on the same team. That leaves Sermon and Gus Edwards driving the RB bus now. It could be worse, but it could be a lot better too. Not that it matters a whole lot but TY Hilton is injured as well. There isn’t even a QB3 on this team. Looking at this team a few weeks after the draft makes it a little more clear that this team is in for a long year.
