Minor League Y 2019 Draft Recap

I think this is the most stacked league in the entire RFFA. I expect this league to have the most points scored at the end of the year. There are some people who performed very well in the Amateur Hour League last year as well as some teams that just had a bad run in the Champions League. I think there will be some surprise additions to the Amateur Hour League next year from this group. I had a really hard separating most teams from Champions League and Minor League predictions.

I think the high caliber owners led to some very disciplined drafting this year. Both the Champions League and the other Minor League had huge runs on QB where 2/3 of the picks were QBs in a single round. And Mahomes didn’t go off the board until the end of the 2nd. Every other league had him as a first-round pick. I think this will lead to a lot of different team compositions and fun year in the league. Good Luck Everyone!

Team Hewitt – 1st Pick Prediction – Champions League

It’s not often you see the consensus #1 RB, consensus #1 QB, and a TE that can almost be argued as the #1 TE all on the same team. This does leave the other positions a bit thin though. Sterling Shepard needs to hold down the WR2 role until AJ Green comes back. Mark Ingram and Duke Johnson need to fill out the starters as well. The rest of the roster is pretty safe which is probably the right strategy given the elite top-end talent on this roster. I think this team may just squeak into the playoffs and get the one important victory to get into the Champions League.

Scott County FC – 2nd Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

Scott County led off the draft with 3 straight RBs. This will probably be one of the strongest RB groups in the league which is always important when injuries occur. It does leave major questions at WR. Corey Davis and Geronimo Allison will be competing for the WR2 role. One of them will need to step up to fill out the starting lineup. In the other Minor League, Matt Ryan went in the first round. Scott County was able to find value in the 5th round with Ryan. In the end, I think this team will fall just short due to a lack of WR production.

Straya Vegemites – 3rd Pick Prediction – Champions League

With one of the most disgusting names in the whole RFFA, the Vegemites are back for another year. Following industry recommendations, the Vegemites waited on both QB and TE. They didn’t select one until the 9th round. This gave them great depth at RB and WR. Josh Allen and Derek Carr can still be a good pair of QBs and while I don’t like Trey Burton much this year, there is probably still some TEs on the waiver wire. I wouldn’t be surprised if this team could trade to improve the QB or TE position during the year.

Boston Sea Dragons – 4th Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League

Zeke protected by a round 12 Tony Pollard is pretty good value. The biggest questions come up in RB2 and WR2. Aaron Jones could easily be an RB1, but he could also get stuck in a split and be a flex play. Lockett has also shown flashes, but he needs to step up into the top role in Seattle in order to deliver the points the Dragons need. I don’t think Pollard, Lockett, and Jones will all step up enough to keep the team in the playoff race until Zeke returns. I originally had this team in the Minor Leagues, but there are too many questions in a stacked league.

Norfolk - N - Way – 5th Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League

I like the team name but, I don’t like the team. Kyler, Goff, and Engram in rounds 5, 6, and 8 are all good value but I think the top of the draft has serious issues. The first is Melvin Gordon in the 3rd. It is looking more and more like this is a lost pick. Sony Michel also has some concerns with his knee. If these two miss time, Tarik Cohen has to pick up the slack. I just don’t think there is enough there. If Gordon shows up week 1 this team looks great but if he doesn’t this team will be saying Folk You Melvin Gordon.

Team Eline – 6th Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League

No this is not my team. This is team autodraft. The only QB is Luck plus this team also won the Lamar Miller sweepstakes. Looks to be an 11 team league this year.

Team Hernandez – 7th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

Overall this is a very balanced team with a clear strength at TE. A playoff run really depends on a player stepping up into the flex spot. There are possibilities with Guice, Kirk, and some other players that are a little more dependent on someone else getting hurt. I see most of these players underperforming a bit and that will leave this team just a bit short. Each week this team was the potential to win but I don’t think they will pull out 7 wins across the course of the season.

LA Talon – 8th Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League

An interesting draft coming out of LA. Weeks 13-16 Derrick Henry is a league winner but early 2018 Derrick Henry is a complete dud. Then TY Hilton’s projection is a little lower with Luck leaving and Alshon is also facing a lot of competition for targets. The interesting part really comes with the back to back to back QBs in the middle of the draft and double defenses late. Great streaming and maybe even better for a trade at some point in the season. A good early trade could make this team a contender but for now, I think too much value is on the bench.

Team L – 9th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

Another patient team at QB and TE. The QB2 has major questions though. Mariota burned a lot of owners last year and he may just do it again this year. However, there is huge upside at the top of the draft. Jacobs and Williams could be a deadly RB duo. Great RBs and WRs with depth at the position. Maybe pick up a QB upgrade from the Talons and this team could go all the way. But for now, Mariota will be dragging this team down all season.

Not Your Mama – 10th Pick Prediction – Champions League

A strong RB-RB opening plus some top talent at QB and TE should keep this team competitive all season. This team needed to find some late-round help at WR though. And for the most part, I think they found it. Godwin has huge expectations. Sanders is looking like he never tore his achilles. Devin Singletary could be a starting RB and Kareem Hunt may come back at some point. I think this team is good enough to get to the playoffs and will only get better with time.

Team Camin – 11th Prediction – Minor Leagues

The only thing that can slow down this team is injuries. Dalvin, Chris Carson, Mike Williams, and Deshaun Watson have all had some issues in the past. If everyone shows up though, this team will be very strong and there is a lot of upside later in the draft. This is a very competitive league and a few tough injury weeks could leave this team on the couch watching the playoffs. It is the Minor Leagues by the slimmest of margins.

Team Mark – 12th Prediction – Minor Leagues

I want to hate this team. I need to hate this team because I don’t have enough Amateur Hour League predictions. There is a big hole at WR2 and pieces could quickly begin to crumble. Is Baker worth a 4th round pick? With Lindsay continue to produce? If enough pieces crumble, I don’t think there is enough upside later to pick it up. There is flex upside all over but maybe not RB2 or WR2 production week in and week out. Not a playoff team, but also not Amateur Hour.
