Welcome to Minor League X 2019. We have some people who had a rough year from the Champions League, some people who had an amazing year in the Amateur Hour League, some are holdovers from last year, and a few just got lucky from dropouts. If there is one thing that is for certain, it is that this league loves their QBs. 8 out of 12 picks in round 3 were QBs. Matt Ryan wasn’t part of that run because he was already taken in the first round, 8th overall. Spoiler Alert: That team isn’t going to get a great rating.
Team Begun – 1st Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues
A well-constructed team that is depending on Zeke to not show up. If that happens this team has a clear RB3 and every other position is fairly well accounted for. If Tony Pollard has value for 8 weeks, that’s most of the regular season and this team is going to the playoffs. At that point, bye weeks are over and the team won’t need Pollard anymore. It might just work out perfectly because once they make the playoffs, anything can happen. I think they pull out one more win and get into the Champions League. *edit* Looks more like Zeke is going to sign. Sorry, but welcome back to the minors.
Alstadt Beer Garden – 2nd Pick Prediction – Champions League
The Beers are back after a heartbreaking end to their season last year. Sporting probably the best QB duo in the league with a top tier TE will give this team an advantage at those positions week in and week out. However, they are going to have to scrape together the RB and WR positions. They seem to have found value in each round with players that could take a big step forward or step into a generous role. I think there will be enough pieces to glue together to get the Beers into the Champions League
London Dre Tones – 3rd Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues
Optimism is on the rise here in London. Kerryon Johnson, Aaron Jones, and Marlon Mack all could have monster years, but they have never put together a 16 game season. The same can be said about Calvin Ridley, Robby Anderson, and Will Fuller. Add in the most volatile QB last year and one coming off an injury and I have some doubts. As long as everyone doesn’t get hurt at the same time, there might always be someone with some upside. However, I think this team will be limping into the final games of the season and they will come up just short of the playoffs.
Stoke Penguins – 4th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues
Picking from the 4 spot for the second straight year in Minor League X, we have the Stoke Penguins. This is where we find the home of Patty Mahomes all the way up in the 4th overall spot. The team is going to be very dependent on Manny Sanders making a full recovery from the achilles tear. And maybe the more difficult aspect of overcoming Joe Flacco. The team has pieced together a good starting lineup but there are serious concerns with depth. One big injury and this team will be hurting. I don’t see them making it to the playoffs.
Lucky Dogs – 5th Pick Prediction – Champions League
This team was fairly patient and picked up one solid QB and one that puts up good fantasy points. In the process, the team was able to pick up a lot of great value at RB and WR. Plus, Melvin Gordon in the 6th with Justin Jackson on the bench gives this team a lot of upside potential if Melvin gets on the field. Despite some late hail marys at TE, this team should be a constant force with solid WR and RB play all season long.
Isla and Evie’s Mom – 6th Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League
Maybe this is a bit of karma and I am only guessing on the scenario. In a previous year, this team picked Tom Brady as the number one QB despite being a big Colts fan. At some point, it appears this team went on autodraft unfortunately. Somewhere between the round 5 selection of Brissett and the 11th and 12th round duo of Lamar Miller and Andrew Luck. Autodraft knew this team wanted all the colts and it happened. Couple those with Zeke at the number one pick and that could be a tough starting lineup week 1. The final pick for this team may be a starting RB for them in Ro Jo.
Cheng’s Gang – 7th Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League
No major complaints at the top of the draft but the RB2 spot appears weak. Tarik Cohen and Sony Michel will get first crack at the job, but Cohen looks to be losing touches and Sony has a lot of competition if his knee starts to hurt. This only leads to more questions at the flex spot where Jarvis Landry throws in his hat as well. There isn’t much lower on the roster unless someone else gets injured which makes me think this team is going to struggle all year long.
Team Carr – 8th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues
A 1st round pick of Matt Ryan. I’ll be honest, not my favorite. But with the early run on QBs, it didn’t hurt this team too much. The WRs and RBs have put up numbers in the past but they have also put up a lot of disappointing weeks due to injury, stupidity, or just not producing. The team went for 3 TEs and all three could definitely produce. I think this team will compete each and every week but I don’t see them making the playoffs when it is all said and done.
Tom’s Puppet – 9th Pick Prediction – Champions League
I am sure everyone is thinking, “With such a great draft, Tom must be behind the picks!” But I cannot claim any credit for this team. I do think this is the team to beat this year in Minor League X. 2 QBs with great upside in rounds 3 and 6. Fantastic late RB selections with Latavius Murray and Tevin Coleman. Potential stud TE. A handcuff for the top RB. And plenty of WR upside after two clear stars. If this team doesn’t win, I will be surprised.
Donkey Teeth – 10th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues
This team is another that managed to wait a bit on QB and still come out with a few good players. Jameis and Kirk are very serviceable QBs when you have a strong group of RBs and WRs. However, the WRs get a little weak after the first two. Tyrell Williams may not be a consistent enough WR3 for this team. I also wonder if Chris Carson or James Conner will both be the bell cow backs that these Donkeys need. The lack of depth, lack of clear-cut bell cows, and no dominant QBs will keep this team out of the playoffs.
Meath Royals – 11th Prediction – Amateur Hour League
I have handed out quite a few Champions League and minor league predictions. I was wondering where all the bad teams are. Well, I found one here. Derrick Henry in the second round? Alshon as WR2? Who knows what Todd Gurley will look like this season. Major pass on this team.
Team McAfee – 12th Prediction – Amateur Hour League
Everyone is making a big deal about James White. Sure he was a top 10 last year, but that was when he was the only healthy RB. I don’t think he is going to repeat this with a healthy Sonny Michel and Damien Harris in the same backfield which leaves some questions as RB2. Then there is only 1 QB in a superflex. There are some good things about this team but 1 QB is not quite enough. And we have our final entry to the Amateur Hour League.
