Welcome to the third year of the Relegation League and the second edition of the Champion’s League. We have some fresh faces this year and we will see if one of them can knock off the reigning champion, Kevin Brady.
How people approach the quarterback position is always interesting in these leagues. In the Champion’s League, most people seemed to want to wait on a quarterback. Only 6 QBs were taken in the first 5 rounds and two of those went to the FanPubPodcast. Then in round 6, three QBs came off the board and the dam was about to break. From pick 7.11 through the end of the 8th round, 10 out of 14 picks were quarterbacks. Hopefully, you caught the start of the flood and not the end.
Rammed by Legatron – 1st Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues
We start with one of the teams that caught the end of the flood and it was for their first QB. Josh Allen and Jacoby Brissett will lead this team into the season with no one else on the depth chart. You would expect a strong set of RBs and WRs but Tyler Lockett and David Montgomery leave some people scratching their heads. You would expect more than two players who haven’t yet proven to be consistent top commodities. This team rounded out the draft with a lot of youth including MVS, Justice Hill, and Damien Harris. Hopefully one or two of these young players see their potential come to life in their rookie year.
Norfolk Yokels – 2nd Pick Prediction – Champions League (No Playoffs)
One of our returning teams is picking in the 2nd position for the 2nd year in a row. And its all aboard the hype train for the Yokels. Some say that Derrick Henry has finally been freed and will continue being an RB1 like the end of the last year. That Golladay is going to be better than Megatron. That Penny will definitely take over the Seattle backfield. I’m just not sure I am drinking the Kool-aid on all these players yet.
League Boss – 3rd Pick Prediction – Playoffs
Once again, an absolute master class in drafting. Well at least for the first pick. I think Alvin Kamara is pretty good. The top end of the draft was strong for this team, but cracks start to show in rounds 7 and 8. Each quarterback taken was about a tier lower than planned. Then the bench is full of hopes and dreams. There may be a WR1 or a an RB1 in the crowd but it’s probably mostly waiver wire fodder by week 3. Not many people get an “elite” QB in the 12th round but Joe Flacco is back ready to make some noise. No doubt this team is returning to the playoffs and they are hungry for the trophy.
Mr G’s Drama Class – 4th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues
You knew this team was looking for drama queen in the draft. Antonio Bryant. And they got him. So how long until AB comes up with something else to complain about? I think it will be where each week you have to guess the latest AB drama. If AB plays like he did on the Steelers then this team has the potential to go a long way. If he doesn’t, I don’t think this bench could support the loss of the second-round pick.
Disgusting Act By Randy Moss – 5th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues
Our defending champion choose the 5th spot to draft from. A slightly odd choice of draft location but who am I to second guess. And I shouldn’t second guess his draft choices, but I must. Leonard Fournette isn’t the smartest or healthiest. Sony Michel has his own injury issues along with a crowded backfield. Ditto for Alshon only a crowded receiver room. Miles Sanders is in a backfield that has always been a split. I’m not saying all these players will underperform, but I think some will. And that will be the demise of this team. I don’t think we will see a back to back champion.
Los Pollos Hermanos – 6th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues
More like Los Pollos Locos. The second RB chosen is contingent on Melvin Gordon holding out. The third RB chosen is a handcuff to the first because the first might hold out. After that we are relying on Jordan Howard and Adrian Peterson to support this team. Then the top 3 WRs were rookies last year. Sure this is probably the best QB and TE combo, but that isn’t going to be enough to keep this team afloat.
The FanPub Podcast – 7th Pick Prediction – Playoffs
After a great run in the minor leagues, the podcast has joined the top league. The 7th overall pick was where the first QB came off the board and no surprise it was Patrick Mahomes. What is probably more surprising is the 4th Round pick of Matt Ryan. This left the WR corps a little thin for the FanPub. Mike Williams and Dede could continue to grow as young receivers or AJ Green and Manny Sanders could overcome their injuries. If these WRs can piece it together, this team could go a long way.
Flying Purple People Eaters – 8th Pick Prediction – Playoffs
A lot of owners go into a draft with a plan. I am guessing most people had the plan that the People Eaters executed almost to perfection. First load up on RBs and WRs. Catch the start of the QB rush. Wait on TE. Fill out the team with high upside players. This team has it all. The most interesting part will be when Daniel Jones takes over for Eli and starts putting up big numbers. Then there will probably be a few people knocking on the door of the People Eaters looking for a trade.
New Lennox Mustangs – 9th Pick Prediction – Champions League (No Playoffs)
While I would have drafted both of these QBs had they made it another half round, I would not have drafted these RBs to lead my team. First, Chris Carson has injury issues. Then I think James White had a favorable year last year and the RB room there is only more crowded. Tarik Cohen seems to be getting less touches in Chicago. Breida has his own injury issues. I don’t know if this team will still be standing at the end of the year when the games count. The RBs may just take this team out of contention.
Team Essman – 10th Pick Prediction – Playoffs
Essman has a very balanced roster construction and has bet a 6th round pick on Duke Johnson leading the Texans’ backfield this year. He really needs Damien Williams to be an RB1 and maintain that job and Boyd needs to step up with AJ Green out. In the end I think Essman is going to see great value from rounds 4-6 which will catapult this team into the playoffs. Although I don’t think they will be able to advance very far with some of the other teams.
The Rifles – 11th Prediction – Minor Leagues
It’s a good thing this isn’t a real locker room because I don’t know if I want Le’Veon Bell and Tyreek Hill as your leaders. The bigger problem is going to be the backups for this team. The backup QB is Eli Manning for two quarterbacks who like to run. Eli may be a backup on his own team by the time he is needed on this team. Then the backup WRs are Anthony Miller and DeSean Jackson. Miller needs to take a step up and Jackson needs to stay healthy. I don’t think the depth on this team is going to be enough to make it all the way.
The Dre Tones – 12th Prediction – Minor Leagues
Trump was sworn in as president, Prince Harry was engaged to Megan Markle, and Despacito was at the top of the charts when this team was last good. Big Ben and Brady have been seen going to Old Country Buffet at 4:45 pm. Melvin Gordon is on a beach somewhere getting ready to watch some football. Todd Gurley lost a knee and TY lost his QB. Kareem Hunt might as well go hang out with Melvin Gordon for a few weeks and well, Corey Davis has never been that great. Unless you have a time machine, this looks like a one-way ticket to the minors.
