The Flying Purple People Eaters are the champions of the first and quite possibly last expansion of the RFFA. Congratulations! Getting into the playoffs was a close race as 4 teams tied for 2nd place. 84 points were the difference between getting the #2 seed and ending the season 5th with another year on tap in the Minor Leagues. Thank you, everyone, for a great year in this league. This league easily wins the competition for best team names.
As for my predictions, I went 5 out of 12. It isn’t too bad for having 3 categories.
Congrats to those moving to the Champions League and best of luck to everyone next year!
New Lenox Mustangs – 2nd Place Prediction – Amateur Hour League
James Conner and later Jalen Samuels really helped to keep this team relevant all year. The true star of this team though was the Bears D. Anyone with the Bears D saw a huge advantage each week over their opponents. Other than James Conner, only Joe Mixon finished in the top 10 at their position. A very odd stat for a playoff contender. Choosing the right lineup was key for this team each week and the owner regularly put the best players out there. So much for my prediction on this one.
#mcafee for the brand – 3rd Place Prediction – Minor Leagues
This team fell victim to the week 12 bye. 2 Rams and 2 Chiefs led this team to the top record and the most points scored for the season by almost 200 points. Unfortunately, the team could only put up 82 points in the first week of the playoffs. This put the team over 60 points in the hole going into the second week. It was too much for the team to overcome in the second week. The team came back strong in the consolation game and took 3rd place overall and most importantly, stamped their ticket to the Champions League.
Flying Purple People Eaters – 1st Place Prediction – Champions League
Congrats to our champions once again. Only once in the regular season did this team not put up 100 points in a week. It also happened once in the playoffs but the team was able to scrape through the first round. A furious comeback led by Damien Williams and Josh Allen of all people gave this team the championship in the 2nd week of the matchup. Overall a great year and this manager will be one to watch in the Champions League.
Scott’s Tots – 11th Place Prediction – Amateur Hour League
The Tots made a furious run at the end of the season picking up 3 wins in the last 4 weeks. Unfortunately, the start of the season was too much to overcome and the Tots were one win away from remaining in the Minor Leagues. Late season production from Marlon Mack, Mark Ingram, and Philip Lindsay fueled the late run. Disappointing seasons from Baldwin and Demaryius Thomas really sunk the team’s early efforts. Overall this roster would be solid for next year and this team has some real promise to get back into the Minor Leagues for 2020.
A. Brownderas' Mariachi Band– 12th Place Prediction – Amateur Hour League
First McKinnon, then Freeman. Sometimes the injuries take a team out of contention without much hope. Especially when players like Allen Robinson do not live up to the draft potential. While some players overperformed for the season like Jared Cook and James White, Antonio Brown was the only other RB, TE, or WR to finish in the top 40 of their position for this team. This team needs to focus on depth in the offseason and setting up a culture of next man up.
Boston Sea Dragons – 5th Place Prediction – Minor Leagues
The Sea Dragons were hurt early by inconsistent play from Mariota, Cooper, and Lamar Miller. By the end of the season, this team had gotten its act together and put together 3 straight victories to get to 6-5 and remain in the Minor Leagues. But that was the nature of this team’s season. 2 Losses, then 3 wins, followed by 3 losses before the final 3 wins. If this team can recover from losses a little quicker next year, they will find themselves in the playoffs and fighting for a spot in the Champions League.
NYC EZ Packs – 9th Place Prediction – Minor Leagues
Travis Kelce, Julio Jones, Matt Ryan, Aaron Jones, Dalvin Cook, Tyler Boyd, Gus Edwards, and Chris Carson. This team must have had a decent season, right? 2-9 and last place in the league? That can’t be correct. Sadly it is. Every other team in the Minor League Y hates the NYC EZ Packs. They put up a combined 1433.7 points over the regular season. Not one week did EZ Packs’ opponent put up less than 100 points. Only 3 times did the opponent not eclipse the 110-point mark. This was an absolutely brutal season. It will, unfortunately, put the EZ Packs in the Amateur Hour League where their luck will have to change for next year.
Scott County FC – 8th Place Prediction – Champions League
Scott County limped home with a 2-3 record in the final 3 weeks but they managed to hold onto a spot in the minor leagues. Two of those losses were only by a few points. Converting those to wins probably would have catapulted this team into the playoffs. If Scott County can learn how to finish the close games, they will see themselves in the Champions League for 2020.
Kerryon My Wayward Son– 4th Place Prediction – Minor Leagues
This team really made the most out of not much talent throughout the year. Melvin Gordon and George Kittle led the team, but the rest of the team includes a bunch of players who had a few good weeks. But that was enough for a playoff spot. Unfortunately, the playoffs went horribly wrong with Dion Lewis losing touches, Golladay and Newton disappearing at times, and Beckham and Gordon getting injured. The team only managed 178 points in the first playoff matchup and 153 in the second. For that reason, Kerryon will remain in the Minor Leagues one more year.
Meath Royals – 10th Place Prediction – Minor Leagues
When Thielen cools off, Alex Collins loses his job, and Fournette continues to be an idiot, your team is going to struggle. This team lost the final 5 contests of the season to drop into the Amateur Hour League. There are disappointments up and down the roster including Marquise Goodwin, Tevin Coleman, and LeSean McCoy. It was a tough year and the Royals will need to look toward a strong year in the Amateur Hour League to get back into the Minor Leagues.
Guns and Rosen – 7th Place Prediction – Amateur Hour League
Despite a 7-4 record finishing 5-0 in the final weeks, Guns and Rosen just barely missed out on the playoffs. Guns and Rosen even beat two of the other 7-4 teams in the final two weeks of the regular season. It was a great finish and I am looking forward to seeing how the team builds on this late success next year. Hopefully, he doesn’t pull a Derrick Henry and disappear at the start of the season again.
Korn Holers – 6th Place Prediction – Champions League
Finishing the season at 1-3 will leave the Holers with a sour taste going into the offseason. Despite having a top-3 RB, WR, and Def, the team couldn’t manage a winning record. A real disappointment at the end of the day. Some rookie disappointments lead the problems for the team. Next year, some more experienced players may help this team make the playoffs and advance to the Champions League.
