Minor League Y Draft Recap

Welcome to everyone in our first ever expansion league. I hope you enjoy it and stay in for years to come. Initially, it appeared the league did not understand that two QBs could be played at one time. The first QB off the board was pick 30! However, the league caught on and a third of the picks from pick 40 to 70 were QBs.

I also want to say thank you for coming up with some interesting names other than team [last name]. The other leagues appear to be struggling in this area a bit. The lazy commissioner included.

New Lenox Mustangs – 1st Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League

With the first overall pick, the Mustangs chose Le’Veon Bell. Unfortunately, he looks to be back in week 10 at the time of writing this recap. If the Mustangs make it to the playoffs, they will be extremely scary. There is some depth at RB and WR but only one QB on this team could lead to problems. The problems are stacking up and the Amateur Hour League is waiting with open arms to welcome them next year.

Team Vogel – 2nd Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

After dodging the Le’Veon bullet, Vogel picked up Todd Gurley. The team is a little light on RB after that first pick. Duke Johnson is in a crowded backfield and Marlon Mack may not be on the field for week 1 or 2. There are WRs for days and two strong QBs. With a little maneuvering, this team could be a real contender late in the season. Unfortunately, I think they will come up just a little short on a tie-breaker and find themselves in the Minor Leagues again next year.

Flying Purple People Eaters – 3rd Pick Prediction – Champions League

The late QBs allowed this team to pick up two solid RBs and WRs in the first 4 rounds. Baker Mayfield and Case Keenum in rounds 14 and 15 could be great trade pieces around the middle of the season. That is about the time when Rashaad Penny and Edelman are rounding into form. Add on a lucky Adrian Peterson pickup and this team is looking solid. If this team isn’t in the Champions League next year we will be looking at one of the biggest disappoints in the RFFA.

Scott’s Tots – 4th Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League

The Tater Tots had a questionable pick for the RB2 by going with Ajayi. However, they backed up that pick with upside picks Kerryon Johnson and Mark Ingram. If Ajayi can stay upright for 4 weeks, this team may have some strong weeks down the stretch. It is unclear if the one TE on this team will be able to carry the load. Njoku is competing with a lot of people for targets. He may have a few great weeks, but he could also put up a lot of goose eggs. A rough start and a shaky TE drops this team into the Amateur Hour League.

A. Brownderas' Mariachi Band– 5th Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League

This band must be best known for their performances at Dia de Muertos remembering the past contributions of McKinnon. The injury puts James White in the starting lineup. A late QB pick of Darnold in the last round keeps this team relevant, but they will need to move their glut of WRs in order to get some better balance. The team will fight to make the Minor Leagues, but in the end, they will be just short.

Boston Sea Dragons – 6th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

Where do you people come up with these names? The Sea Dragons picked up Gronk and Rodgers early to give an advantage at both positions. This left RB and WR a little weak. However, the team should be able to find a breakout on the bench or on the waiver wire to fill out the team during the bye weeks. I see Gronk carrying this team all the way to the playoffs, but that is where the team will begin to struggle. A 4th place result will leave this team on the outside looking in next year.

NYC EZ Packs – 7th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

4th Round saw the first defense go off the board. Wow. The Jags D was taken 42nd overall. Wow. Just Wow. With a Kelce pick in the 3rd round, EZ Packs is looking a little weak in the RB2 and WR2 positions. There are some upside and possibilities there, but I am not sure if it is enough to take them to the playoffs unless Jalen Ramsey starts playing both ways. Bold move Cotton but I think it is only enough to get you in the Minor Leagues next year.

Scott County FC – 8th Pick Prediction – Champions League

The long-standing rivalry between Scott County FC and Scott’s Tots should be fun to watch this year. It always gets a little chippy but the quality of the play is always top notch. Mark your calendars for week 3 so you don’t forget to tune in for this matchup. Unfortunately, it may not be competitive because Scott County is looking like one of the teams to beat this year. Solid RBs, WRs, and QBs with depth at every position makes this team scary. Peyton Barber is looking like a starter that was found in a double-digit round. That usually spells success.

Kerryon My Wayward Son– 9th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

We will see if Father Time has finally caught up to Fitz and Lynch this year. Kerryon is betting on another good season for both of these players. I think it more likely to see one or both struggle to put together a full season like they have in the past. There is some depth and youth later in the draft that was made possible by snagging Kittle in the last round. This team will be good, but not quite good enough for the playoffs.

Meath Royals – 10th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

Is McCoy going to be in jail? Is Marquise Goodwin going to break out? Is Alex Collins really a starting RB the whole season? Will someone steal JuJu’s bike again? Does Kyle Rudolph’s nose glow red? Is Tyler Eifert more man or machine at this point? Too many questions for me regarding this team. I can’t see them being a consistent contender which places them in the Minor Leagues.

Guns and Rosen – 11th Prediction – Amateur Hour League

The draft started out well until we arrived at the selection for the RB2. Derrick Henry is going to have a hard time meeting the hopes and dreams that so many fantasy owners have for him. The team isn’t without hope at RB and WR but the team lacks a second QB. Ultimately this is going to doom the team to a trip to the Amateur Hour League.

Team Allen – 12th Prediction – Champions League

During my first draft of writing this, I have given out positions for the Champions League and the Minor Leagues. All that’s left is an Amateur Hour League spot. Hopefully, this team sucks and I can throw them down there. Well crap. Maybe the backup RBs are a little weak but they have good upside too. I’ll have to make some room in the Champions League for this team. Let’s see who is dropping down. Looks Boston Sea Dragons just got knocked out of the Champions League and Scott’s Tots are going to the Amateur Hour League. Looks like there is only room for one Scott here.
