Minor League Y Draft Recap

Minor League Y Draft Recap

Hi Everyone! And welcome to another year of the Relegation Fantasy Football League. Good luck to all of you on making it to the Champions League.

I could have put almost everyone in the middle of the league. I think this league will be extremely equal at the end of the day. Very few teams popped out as fantastic or in a really poor position. It should be a fun fight to the finish.

JW Englehardt - 1st Pick (Minor Leagues)

An interesting start with 2 early running backs after Mahommes. Waller in the 6th puts TE in a potentially strong position. But the big question comes up in WR. And there isn’t a strong answer. Ridley is the WR1 but he hasn’t played in about 2 years. McLaurin and Evans hold down the WR2 spot but one is injured and the other needs to get passes from Baker. I think you could still consider this team a contender but the last 5-6 rounds don’t add anyone of particular interest. Without much upside late, I don’t think this team has the firepower to make it to the Champions League.

Racesens - 2nd Pick (Champions League)

This was a very well executed draft. Good balance at the start picking up a RB, WR, and QB in the first 3 rounds. Geno in 4th round is a good value if he can be a QB1 again this season. Aaron Jones should be a solid RB2. And WR2 is covered with Lockett and Diontae. One of the two should be able cover that spot. We haven’t even gotten to Rashaad White and David Montgomery who saw plenty of work in the Lion’s first game. A bit of a gamble with Kincaid as the TE but he could also be a top scorer by the end of the season. A pretty easy choice for me to put them in the Champions League

El Camino - 3rd Pick (Minor Leagues)

I don’t mind starting heavy QB and waiting until the 4th to get Gibbs as your RB1. Sure he didn’t have many touches, but he looked great with the ball in his hands. If he gets a couple more touches, he won’t have a problem putting up points. My problem is with the QB2. I don’t think Watson gets his confidence back. After not playing 2 years, this feels a bit early for me. And the cost is a weak RB2 that will need to be filled by someone in a committee that hasn’t quite won the position yet. It takes a very good year to get to the Champions League and I think the second round pick will come back to haunt this team.

Talon747 - 4th Pick (Minor Leagues)

This team is loaded at WR. Adams, Higgins, Metcalf makes for an extremely strong trio. Then an interesting QB room with Lamar, Stafford, and Kyler. About the time that Stafford is getting injured, Kyler could be coming back. Having Mattison and Kamara could be plenty strong in week 4. But the team might be giving up 3 weeks at the start. That seems like a lot to start the season off with, but they should have a very strong finish to the year. It will be very hard to get the Champions League with a rough start but the Minors shouldn’t be an issue.

Pierson07 - 5th Pick (Amateur Hour League)

A rare WR-WR start to one of these leagues. Prescott in the third as your QB1 isn’t bad considering that fact. But now you have left two positions, RB and QB in a tough spot. Those two positions tend to fall off quicker than WR. So you really need to hit great picks the rest of the way. RB will mainly be filled by a trio Breece Hall, Travis Etienne, and Cam Akers. There is some upside with all three, but all 3 also make me nervous. I don’t think Breece is ever really going to take over that backfield this year. Then if Etienne or Akers underwhelms, there is a position struggling. Then QB2 is Baker Mayfield. That just doesn’t feel good. RB and QB needed to be perfect, and they aren’t. So i have to send this team down.

Saint Lewis - 6th PIck (Champions League)

I am on the fence with Anthony Richardson. But earlier today I was listening to a podcast that still had high hopes for him. So for the next few hours at least, I’m in. Pairing him with Burrow feels like a good QB room. WRs were locked up in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. So then we have RB and TE. Kenneth Walker and James Connor are okay. But I like even more having Javontae, GIbson, and Tank Bigsby later. Plus Kyle PItts seems like a total wild card. Is he all the hype from his rookie year or just another TE that disappoints year after year. I am staying on the positive track and this team is taking a step up at the end of the season.

RBegun - 7th Pick (Minor Leagues)

This happened in Minor League X as well. I was through half the league and I had barely given out any Amateur Hour League predictions. Things got rough for that league later and I am worried about this one too. But this team is going to do okay. Not great, not bad. Just okay. Pick after pick, I just see an okay player that will do okay things. Chubb hasn’t gotten passing work in the past, Waddle is WR2 on his team, Najee can’t seem to run more than 15 yards without getting tackled, Derek Carr - enough said, Miles Sanders hasn’t taken off before and is on a team that will struggle. You can just keep going through the list of draft picks. This team will be 7-7 after 14 weeks.

TheJessica88 - 8th Pick (Amateur Hour League)

I really like that this team has Purdy and Howell for the QB2. I think one of them will be pretty solid this year. Oh…wait a minute. They are the QB1 and QB2. Now I don’t feel so good about this. Ah I see. They went for an early TE in…Kelce. Well hind-sight being 20/20 that doesn’t feel as good. Hopefully he comes back sooner rather than later. And Amari Cooper and Dameon Pierce don’t excite me enough in the 4th and 5th rounds to justify the late QB picks. The Kelce injury is going to start creating a hole that is going to be hard to dig out of.

JessBeals - 9th Pick (Minor Leagues)

You don’t often see a RB-RB start in these leagues. But we have that followed by a 4th round RB as well. And it was JT so the team doesn’t even need him the first 4 weeks anyway. Although it would be nice to slot him in as a flex. The team is okay at QB with Tua and Russ. That leaves a lot to find in WR. But there is a strategy out there that says you can find them in middle rounds. While two are injured for week 1, Jeudy, Watson, and PIttman are a nice trio to pick up late. If Jeudy and Watson get healthy and JT fixes his “injury” too then this team will be strong down the stretch.

ToppGunner - 10th Pick (Amateur Hour League)

I am struggling to get enough people in the Amateurs in this league. It seems to be very equal across the board. So I am going to take the easy way out. Kupp in the 2nd seemed like a good pick, but I would be surprised if he is back in week 5. That leaves Deebo hanging onto his glory year as a RB and WR and DJ Moore hoping some day he plays with a really good QB. It could be worse though. RB also leaves some to be desired. Mixon and James Cook have some good situations. But I am not convinced they will put up the points week and week out. It was a tough injury break. Hopefully you can find some gems on the waiver wire.

Alexpoli - 11th PIck (Champions League)

It was Champions or Amateurs. But I don’t really see either with this team or the next. But the next team is a little worse. That makes this team the best team ever! Chase and Barkely at the start is pretty amazing. Rodgers is going to come back as an MVP candidate. Kirk Cousins likes that. Dobbins will eventually get back into form and put up solid numbers and I like Aiyuk as a solid WR2. Charbonnet and Higbee give some upside later. Great draft. He even took 2 defenses which is super awesome. So yeah, it could happen. I think it is all on Dobbins and Rodgers to really step up for the team.

Lukemcafee - 12 pick (Amateur Hour League.

FIrst 4 picks, no problems in my mind. Then it starts to fall apart. Jordan Love and Deandre Swift are two players I really don’t think are going to win people their leagues. A lack of upside later is going to make filling those gaps difficult. Stroud will be starting but I don’t expect much. Brian Robinson doesn’t catch many balls. Kirk is streaky. Those first 4 might just keep this team hanging around for awhile, but eventually the lack of depth is going to catch up to this team.
