Minor League Y Draft Recap 2022

While the draft was painfully slow at times, I think the result was an incredibly tight draft. I had multiple teams in the Minors I could almost put in the Champions League. And the teams in the Amateurs were there because of 1 or 2 picks usually. I could easily see myself getting none of these predictions correct.

Saint Lewis – 1st Pick Prediction – Champions League

With the first pick in Minor League Y, we have our first playoff team. The key is the 4/5 turn with Waddle and Pittman. Two great picks at WR after getting a solid QB, RB, and TE in the first 3 rounds. As we get to the later rounds we get some solid if unexciting RBs in Singletary and Mitchell. Then some late lottery tickets with Pickens, Garoppolo, and James Robinson. Sometimes it is just straightforward when you have a good team like this one.

Topp Gunner – 2nd Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League

So I have the benefit of watching one game so far this year. And it tells me this team is in trouble. Diggs was great but Cam Akers seems to not be the starting running back. The only thing worse than Akers’s first-week game this season was James Cook’s first game. I do like Zach Wilson late and the top two WRs. This team is bordering on the Amateurs and the Minors. For now, I will put them in the amateurs but we will see how many other teams will struggle.

Stueyh1122 – 3rd Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

All in all, this is a solid team. Taylor and Barkley could be an intimidating RB pair. Brady had a great year last year and Fields has a lot of potential even though he has no one to throw to. I like the Juju and Goedert picks. There are some other good depth pieces as well. I am wondering if there is enough excitement on this team to put them in the Champions League. For now, I am going to say 4th place and keep them just outside the Champions League.

gkuster – 4th Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League

I don’t have a problem at QB obviously with Mahomes. I like the WRs with Davonte Adams, Marquise Brown, and Chris Godwin. The TE is a probably make or break position. If Pitts is the greatest TE like some say, this team might be okay but the RB room has me nervous. Chubb’s lack of pass-catching, Etienne’s splitting touches in the backfield, and Damien Harris both not catching passes and splitting time don’t give you a lot of confidence.

Lowlaw21 – 5th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

Here is another team with some new info based on Thursday night football. And it is a mixed bag. Allen Robinson was a big disappointment, although there is still some hope. And Darrell Henderson looks like a great value in the 11th round. Outside of those players, I see flaws with Mike Williams. We have years of mediocre numbers outside of a few weeks last year. It seems unlikely that he becomes an elite option now. There is still Allen Lazard and Christian Kirk to fill in WR2 but it seems there is some space where someone needs to step up. Those top 4 on this team really need to pull up the team until the other spots can be figured out.

LJ Fresh – 6th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

Kelce in the 2nd feels like a solid value. AJ Brown and DK Metcalf are an interesting pair. After their rookie years, they seemed poised to lead the WRs in the NFL. Both have fallen off a bit without a top-notch QB throwing them the ball. AJ seems to be in a much better position now but both need to overcome less-than-ideal situations. Antonio Gibson and Penny both have good roles going into week one, but I think it will be hard for them to carry this through the season. A few too many questions through a long season for me to put them in the playoffs.

Luke McAfee – 7th Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League

There are some questionable decisions during the draft. The first four rounds are fine, but McLaurin the 5th begins the problems. I don’t think Carson Wentz is going to be that big of an upgrade for the offense. So I am not sure we expect a lot out of a WR that has never been better than WR20. Then taking a TE in the 7th and 9th seems a bit unnecessary. I like Shultz in the 7th but then Hock in the 9th is a luxury pick. And the depth at WR with Amari Cooper, Devonta Smith, Trey Burks, and Russell Gage is okay but it doesn’t excite you. And it pushes down the RB3 which wasn’t taken until the 13th round with Rojo. I think this team runs out of RBs and Hock on the bench isn’t going to do much.

BTH2718 – 8th Pick Prediction – Champions League

BTH left this draft with a well-balanced team starting off the draft QB, RB, WR then hitting all those positions again with the next three picks. All the picks are solid with some upside which is exactly what you can hope for. Then where the previous team picked up 2 TEs and 4 WRs, BTH went for more RB depth which I think will sustain this team through some hard times. The big question is Irv Smith in the 13th as the starting TE. Always been a lot of potential there, but it hasn’t come to much. But I am confident BTH can find some sort of a serviceable TE to fill out the team and get to the playoffs.

AlexPoli – 9th Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League

I feel like this team could have a few weeks as the top-scoring team in the league. But the majority of the weeks are going to be derailed by a couple of players delivering dud weeks. Dalvin Cook is getting older and almost guaranteed to miss some time. Mike Evans is reliant on TDs, especially with Godwin almost back. Kittle is already injured. Then Jeudy and Michael Thomas could be great. But the last two years for each of them don’t give me much hope.

Lefty2104 – 10th Pick Prediction – Champions League

This team goes for the old guys. Old guys with upside though. Derrick Henry was dominating RBs last year. Cooper Kupp did dominate WRs all year last year. And he had a great opening week. And James Connor scored a lot of TDs last year. Will they match last year? So far Kupp is saying yes. I do like the RB depth on this team. I am not sure the final WR2 is on the roster right now. But by trading some of the RB depth or even QB depth, I think this team can fill the gap and get into the playoffs.

JW Enelhardt – 11th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

This team is pretty solid. I get a little nervous about the WRs. Tyreek is in a new offense that may not showcase him as much. DJ Moore always seems to come up short. And despite Gabe Davis’s solid opening week, I am still worried. He had a deep pass on an all-out blitz and a great play call that he didn’t have to do anything but walk into the endzone. With the presence of all the other WRs, I think there are some lesser weeks to come. With 3 volatile WRs, I wonder how many weeks this team will lose due to that group. I have them just on the outside.

ElCamino – 12th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues

A different build than we usually see. 3 QBs in the first 6 rounds. I think one of those QBs must be traded. But it will have to take some time because everyone is feeling decent about their QBs right now. So what happens during those first 4 or so weeks? Well, the RBs are going to be tough. Javonte needs 60% to 70% of the touches. There is Dameon Pierce who might hold up the RB2 spot. And Cole Kmet at TE is a solid late pickup. I really like this team. But it is so hard to get into the playoffs, I am worried a 2-2 start puts some doubt out there.
