Amateur Hour League Draft Recap

Amateur Hour League Draft Recap

Hello everyone and welcome to the Relegation Fantasy Football League. Good luck to all of you, especially those in your first year. Top 8 move up. So I give each team their prediction for next year. Either bottom 4 (Amateur Hour League), Middle 4 (Minor League - No Playoffs), or Top 4 (Minor League - Playoffs)

Crimedog90 - 1st PIck (Amatuer Hour League)

Scruff’s first QB came at the end of the 6th round. And it was probably one pick too late for this crime fighter. Carr, Goff, Wilson, and Stafford all went off the board between this team’s 5th and 6th rounder. The Love/Pickett combo seems weak. Maybe Ridley comes back and sets the league on fire, but I am nervous about players who miss that much time. RB is solid for sure and the late Higbee pick could turn into a lot of value. So there are definitely outs, but someone has to be in the bottom.

Loblaw21 - 2nd PIck (Minor Leagues - Playoffs)

I like the balance at the top. Mahomes, Garrett Wilson, D. Henry allows you to take what the draft gives you the rest of the way. Geno Smith could return top 10 value again in the 4th. Then Mixon and Waller can put up solid numbers. This opened up the law firm to hit WR heavy picking up a lot of good options in Lockett, Evans, and Addison. Then follow that up with RB potential in Warren, Tank, and Mostert. This team might have a hard time picking who to start the first few weeks. But once the dust settles this team will be a force.

AdmiralCB - 3rd PIck (Minor Leagues - No Playoffs)

I am torn here. David Montgomery in the 9th seems like nice value after watching the first game. Monty got a ton of work and should have plenty of TD opportunities. But he is the 2nd of 2 RBs on this team. So sure your starters are good and Kyler is sitting in your IR spot. But the lack of RB depth is going to cause problems at some point. Average WRs aren’t going to trade for good RBs. So I definitely see this team winning some weeks, but it won’t be enough for the playoffs.

Abanda - 4th Pick (Minor Leagues - No Playoffs)

Is there a co-owner? Who knows. Maybe the Breece Hall pick in the 4th divided the two because I don’t really like it. I just don’t see him doing a lot early in the season. And it appears Gibbs might have a slow start too. I do like Gibson and Elliott later to provide some stability while your upside gets going. I like Watson, London, and Diontae in the middle rounds at WR. But all of that comes at a price. And that price is a rough QB2. Ridder and Mayfield are not the best duo to be competing for the QB2 spot. It is more of a pick one and close your eyes situation. A slow start for the RBs and poor QB2s keep this team out of the playoffs.

Gurucoot - 5th PIck (Minor Leagues - Playoffs)

I’m not picking this team for the championship, but I think they squeak into the playoffs. Richardson in the 4th is a huge wildcard. The Colts seem like a disaster. But we have seen in the past, that a running QB can still put up points. McLaurin dealing with an injury hurts but Aiyuk can step into that role. Then Mattison is sneaky as RB2 in the 7th. Howell, Herbert, Kincaid, Elijah Moore, Okonkwo, and LaPorta all have some nice upside. So I think this team is just a bit above 500. And in a closely matched league, that is probably just enough for a playoff spot.

KWorleymax - 6th Pick (Minor Leagues - No Playoffs)

Who would have thought Hockenson would be TE1 going into the first week. The TE position never disappoints at being disappointing. The disappointing thing on this team is the RB2. Perine, Pacheco, and Charbonnet will be competing for that honor. I would just hope for at least one player that is a little more dependable. I think a lot of this team’s success will hinge on Stafford. Stafford can get up to low end QB1 territory or he could be injured and this team is looking to Tannehill for points. This team will be competitive but there are a few holes that keep them out of the playoffs.

Ethansch4578 - 7th Pick (Amateur Hour League)

This team starts off fairly balanced but I am concerned about the choices. Najee has been very volume dependent. Then Swift and Kamara will be working in as Rb2. We just don’t know if Swift will have enough touches to be useful. Kamara’s suspension and getting less work in recent years makes him a little concerning as well. Throw in DangerRuss and you have a bunch of players with huge ranges of outcomes. All of these players could be superstars. But I am not feeling confident enough about these players to get this team into the Minors.

Rosey1612 - 8th Pick (Minor Leagues - No Playoffs)

JT in the 3rd seems like a big risk at this point now that we know he is missing 4 weeks and hasn’t repaired the relationship with the team. That alone is going to be hard to put this team in the playoffs. I do like Rashaad White later in the draft so that mitigates some of the challenges of JT. The rest of the team is built similarly. I don’t love Pitts in the 6th but Engram later could fill some holes. Some of late RBs could be potential trade pieces too if they can get a bigger piece of the workload on their teams. I think it is good to cover the problems, but that isn’t how you win a league.

FortunaFred - 9th Pick (Amateur Hour League)

3QBs in the first 4 picks is a very interesting strategy. I think this team has to trade one though. That is too much draft capital to be forced to put one of them on your bench. All 3 have a ton of value though so it would seem like a trade is possible, but season long leagues are notoriously difficult for trades. I really like the end of the draft for this team picking up people like Deon Jackson, Zay Flowers, and JSN. But there isn’t enough at the top end WRs to hold this team up. A great trade could make this team a competitor, but until that happens, I have them closer to the bottom.

Justshort - 10th Pick (Minor Leagues - Playoffs)

Usually I am hesitant about waiting at QB. But I think this team grabbed two high upside players for their draft location in Purdy and Danny Dimes. Friermuth in the 9th is also waiting until the last possible moment to grab one of the TEs that seem to be a bit more dependable. With those positions covered, this team hit WR and RB early and often. Chase and Bijan lead the way for this team and there is plenty of upside with players like Cook later. Definitely a playoff team.

Bloodshade - 11th Pick (Amateur Hour League)

Writing these late has made it easy to pick a few teams for the bottom. If you picked Kupp or Kelce you are without one of your top players. This is even easier when you are without two of your top players. The rest of the team isn’t horrendous, but there isn’t enough for missing out on your top two players. And once you fall behind, it is tough to come back. I think at the end of the season this team will be playing spoiler for other people. Bryce Young should be playing better. Hopkins will be integrated into his team. And the top two should be back. But this team won’t have a ton to play for.

GoBirds071727 - 12 Pick (Minor Leagues - Playoffs)

37. Did I get it right? Anyway this team has nice balance and some late round firepower. TLaw and Goff should be solid enough. Tyreek, Keenan, Stevenson, and Aaron Jones creates that strong foundation at RB and WR. Then Javontae and Cooks gives some late upside. I think it everything you want to see in a draft. You hit the picks you need to when you need to hit them.
