And the next pick is…still waiting….still waiting….in. Well, the next person should be ready and making a quick pick and here it comes…..almost here….any minute now…..nope. We have spent enough time picking, let's get to the draft recap.
Jessbeals – 1st Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues (Playoffs)
Not the longest wait on QB, another league had someone wait until the 8th, but still pretty long. The clear Colts fan picked up Matt Ryan in the 6th followed by 3 more QBs later in the draft. I like the 4QB approach for trade targets. I also like the RBs and WRs enabled by this approach. I would have liked to have seen a little more depth at RB later in the draft, but I think the team is solid with some trade bait out there. A solid start to the draft and well-executed approach waiting for QB.
Adonis77 – 2nd Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League
Passing on an RB until the end of the 4th round plus taking a mid-range TE really left this team hurting at RB. Etienne as an RB1 seems optimistic. And while Mitchell was a great value last year, his lack of pass-catching seems like it will limit his upside. And there are only two RBs as depth on this team despite clearly waiting and not having a lot of firepower in the position. Even WR feels like a stretch having Sutton as the WR2 and the Thielen and Hopkins later in the draft. Sutton could certainly be great and this team is fine. But if he struggles, that is one too many holes to fill.
Pierson07 – 3rd Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League
Another team waiting until the 6th round for the first QB. Only this time it isn’t executed as well. The WRs are a little weaker than expected. Partially due to the early TE. And the QBs are being led by Trevor Lawrence. Lots of improvements from last year around T Law but you still have to look at that team and say, “it's not great.” Then this team waited again on QB and took Goff and Mariota later. I don’t mind Mariota late but choosing between him and Goff for QB2 is going to be a painful exercise each week. I think that really brings this team down.
EdRooneyJRIII – 4th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues (No Playoffs)
This team needs some breakouts badly. Javonte can’t split carries with Melvin Gordon. Mike Williams needs to sustain a full breakout year. Then we need to see Sky Moore, Aiyuk, and Cole Kmet all show something. I think some of these will happen, but we will also see some busts and those busts will probably be in the starting lineup for a couple of weeks. And that leads to some Ls. I also don’t love Aaron Jones in the 3rd followed by AJ Dillon in the 6th. That is a lot of draft capital on two players in the same backfield. In the competition of these leagues, there are few too many hopes, dreams, and wishes to get into the playoffs.
Ranch420 – 5th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues (No Playoffs)
The first 4 picks, I take no issue with. But on the 5th pick, we see Kittle who we now know is unlikely to play in week 1. Dobbins is unlikely to play in week 1. Jeudy who is a big unknown still going into his third year. Followed by an unexciting Miles Sanders and 3 dart throws at WR. I think this team struggles early on with the injuries and that leaves them at the bottom of the league. It might be salvageable with the longer season. But it can be so hard to come back from early deficits.
Limpcuzican – 6th Pick Prediction – Amateur Hour League
Before Thursday night, I would have had this team much higher. But Akers as RB2 is not looking like a good pick. Gabe Davis was fine but he took advantage of one great play call for his TD, and an all-out blitz that didn’t get home for his long reception. And I don’t like playing WRs on the same team. This team even throws Knox into the mix which further clouds the situation. The Bills have one of the few offenses to support multiple fantasy assets but 3 is probably too much. At least one will struggle each week. It is not by a lot, but I have them in the bottom 4.
EvanB15 – 7th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues (No Playoffs)
After a WR and QB to start with, Evan rattled off 4 RBs and a TE. Nick Chubb's lack of receptions and Gibson only having the starting role because someone was shot weakens this RB quartet considerably. So what should be a strength may just be a slightly above-average group of RBs. After that, you just have to hope Wentz can be a QB2, and Mooney or a Rookie can be a WR2. A playoff spot takes a very good team. I think this team is just slightly above average.
Carlson – 8th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues (Playoffs)
I like Trey Lance in the QB2 spot. I think there is a lot of upside there. The WRs in the middle rounds really offer a lot of value. Higgins, Waddle, and Brown are a great starting 3. The team did wait on RB2. It will probably be a weak spot until one of the WRs can be traded to improve RB. But Juju and Christian Kirk offer some great upside to be potential trade bait for an RB. If Garoppolo can get traded in real life, then this team would be doing even better. But for now, I think this is a solid team that just needs a slight tweak in the season and they will be in the playoffs.
The1and Opie – 9th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues (No Playoffs)
I like RB strength even in a superflex league. Cousins and Tua as mid-range QBs feel like a good pair that could both finish around the QB10 level. But the WRs are painful. Brandin Cooks is always undervalued. But then there is only Rashod Bateman and Drake London on the team. For a team lacking WR stars, I thought the manager would take a few more dart throws at the position. With Chase Edmonds and Dameon Pierce, there are a lot of trade pieces available but it can be hard to trade in redraft. So until I see it, I won't believe it.
RUN-DMZ – 10th Pick Prediction – Minor Leagues (Playoffs)
The previous team should be Run-DMZ. This fake Run DMZ is lacking some early-round RBs but they seemed to have found a huge value with Henderson in the 11th round. Back-to-back QBs to open the draft sets this team up well for success. And the 4 WRs are all a little shaky, but if you only need 2 out of 4 to hit, then I like those odds. Goedert at 8th could be a total steal. And there are even some more RBs that are viable later in the draft. So, all in all, I really like the team. I think the manager needs to guess right early on until the clear leaders at each position are established. Then it will be clear sailing.
Admiral CB – 11th Prediction – Amateur Hour League
Can someone check if Tony Pollard’s mom is CB Pollard? Tony Pollard as your RB1. I have to be honest that seems crazy. If Zeke is hurt, Tony Pollard’s mom is a genius. But I can’t get past that. Then it is just Josh Jacobs and Gainwell after that. So there isn’t even depth behind him. And Lance McCutcheon in the 9th. I think you could have waited until after the draft and still picked him up. Strange picks but I have been proven wrong many times writing these reviews.
Talon – 12th Prediction – Minor Leagues (Playoffs)
I like Pitts early. A bit of risk but potentially winning the league. Waiting on WR until the 5/6 turn still resulted in DK and Diontae who I think are both undervalued. While I don’t love the RB2, I think CEH will be okay and then Talon just has to hope Ken Walker or Mattison get some bigger volume weeks. Ertz late is a luxury pick that wasn’t needed but Ertz could wind up playing well enough to be a worthwhile trade piece. I think this team had such a solid start in the first 6 rounds that the core will carry this team to the playoffs.
