Amateur Hour League Draft Recap
Hello everyone and welcome to the Relegation Fantasy Football League. Good luck to all of you, especially those in your first year. Top 8 move up. So I give each team their prediction for next year. Either bottom 4 (Amateur Hour League), Middle 4 (Minor League - No Playoffs), or Top 4 (Minor League - Playoffs)
RyanCantrell - 1st PIck (Amatuer Hour League)
Unfortunately we get off to a rough start in this draft. While QB is important in SF, 3 QBs in the first 3 picks puts a lot of value on the bench. Hurts and Purdy is a fine 1-2. But Rodgers at the 5.01 feels early. Maybe it is good trade value at some point, But for now, it is a lot of value to play only for 2 bye weeks. The problem is it leaves RB to the 6/7 turn. Aaron Jones and Rhamondre feels weak. And Brian Robinson and JK Dobbins don't offer a ton of upside later in the draft. Even WR is a little weak with Calvin Ridley and Addison taking on the WR3 spot. Maybe with a big trade, this team is in it, but that is hard to pull off.
BigMike84 - 2nd PIck (Minor Leagues - Playoffs)
Big Mike with the big time picks. I think Jaden Daniels in the 3rd is a fantastic pick. One of the few QBs that has running upside later in the draft. Rashaad White as RB1 would make me pretty nervous, but Pollard, Benson, and Corum all offer a lot of potential upside. Then Dalton Kincaid in the 6th gets one of the last top tier tight ends in my opinion. Even the late pick with Fields offers good upside. I would rather use a 12 on Fields than a 5th on Rodgers to get potentially equal future trade value. Well balanced and a clear contender this year.
Sean_McCormick - 3rd PIck (Minor Leagues - No Playoffs)
Starting off RB/RB is a bold move in these leagues. While this team has a decided edge at RB, the rest of the positions can really struggle. Sean went for the old guy route to fill the rest of the roster. 6 of the next 8 picks were 28 years old or older. Maybe they put up some points still, but we have to expect to see some of these players start to drop off. And we probably aren’t going to get a lot of 8th year surprise breakouts from this group. I think those mid round picks will on average disappoint a little. And that leaves this team outside of the playoffs.
DAW314 - 4th Pick (Minor Leagues - Playoffs)
I have this team barely sneaking into the playoffs. Josh Allen falling to the 1.04 feels like a gift. Then two strong WRs anchor this team. I like Baker as a QB2 in the 5th. Then we start to get to some interesting upside picks. Bowers in the 8th as TE2 could still be special enough this year to either put up good points or be a trade piece later in the season. Then Worthy, Nix, and Vidal offer interesting upside for the team. You see a lot of players in the late rounds that could turn into something big if things fall their way. This manager will need to make some moves, but they have the core to get it done.
jasghs2014 - 5th PIck (Minor Leagues - No Playoffs)
Overall this team did a solid job in the draft, but I think they end up falling barely short of the playoffs. Early running backs and Kelce in the 4th pushes WR to the 5th round. AIyuk is talented. But he probably isn’t going to be more than a WR2 like the past two seasons considering he is now back with the same team. Kelce makes me nervous this year too. With all the new WRs, I think the chiefs will look to rest Kelce more. They need him for the playoffs which is all that really matters for the Chiefs now. The late round picks also lack a spark. Most of these guys will put some points on the board, but not enough to ever get off the bench. Godwin, Ekeler, Hopkins, Meyers, and Otton just don’t have a lot of excitement. It's just another okay team at the end of the day.
Rbegun - 6th Pick (Minor Leagues - No Playoffs)
CMC, Love, and Caleb to open the draft feels solid. And I love Engram in the 7th. But some of these picks feel like misplaced hope. Chubb in the 9th when we don’t even know when we will see him feels like a reach. DJ Moore has a lot more competition for targets. Mixon seems to be fading. And Singletary is only interesting because he seems like the only veteran who can start. There are some other picks sprinkled in with some potential, but all in all, too many hopes and prayers on this team to really be considered a contender.
bmiesen - 7th Pick (Amateur Hour League)
I thought I was going to like this team, but as I think about each pick, I get worried. It starts at the top with Stroud and Tua. Stroud had a great year last year and still finished as QB 11. Tua had his best year at 9 last year. They should be solid, but they could both end up being QB2s at the end of the day. Then Jacobs and Kamara lead the RB room. Jacobs may see a lot of volume early, but GB seems to like a committee. I don’t think he is a work horse all year long. And anyone we like because he is by himself makes me a little nervous. After that we get to Flowers and PIckens. Both had some huge games last year, but they also disappeared sometimes. And later in the draft we get very little upside. A lot of low end WRs and RBs who at best can give a few spot starts. Get comfortable because you are going to be in the amateurs for awhile.
gshirron - 8th Pick (Minor Leagues - Playoffs)
I didn’t think I was going to like a team that waited on QB and TE, but I think it works. WR is set with Lamb, Olave, and Collins. RB is pretty good with Gibbs, Walker and maybe Conner and Javonte have some good games too. Goedert at TE is a little flimsy but he should hold down the position. Then at QB you get Cousins, Carr, and Minshew. I think the WRs and RBs give a really nice base to this team and the QBs will get enough points to stay in the game. At the end of the day this team is going to edge out other teams more often than not.
tosh612 - 9th Pick (Amateur Hour League)
Richardson and Dak is a good start. It isn’t lost there. But then picking a punt returner in the 3rd feels risky in Kyren. I don’t think we get any points for punt return yards. Then Deshaun Watson in the 5th as QB3 is a disaster. I don’t see him ever getting back on track. How does he regain confidence when he will probably never have full support of fans or even his teammates. Kittle is getting old. Zamir White is an early down running back with low upside. And while I do like the late upset picks in Chase Brown, Josh Palmer and Ray Davis, it doesn’t make up for the early picks. It will be Tosh2.0 as we will get to see this team in the amateurs again next year.
ChristR - 10th Pick (Minor Leagues - No Playoffs)
I look at this team’s start and I am excited for a really good team. Tyreek Hill and Justin Jefferson start off the draft locking up a strength at WR. This usually causes a problem at QB but Herbert and a dice roll on Bryce Young with a new coach is a couple of good options. Even LaPorta in the 5th feels pretty good. But the RBs really hold this team back. Pacheco is fine, but the remaining RBs are Montgomery, Brooks, Kendre Miller and Wright. Miller I put almost no value in. Brooks should show up, but probably not until the 2nd half of the season. So we are just relying on David Montgomery and a long shot at Wright to fill the RB2 role. There are some other WRs with upside, but they really need to break out to have enough value to grab a good RB in a trade.
Nur11messier - 11th Pick (Amateur Hour League)
I had trouble putting this team in the bottom 4, but there are few too many risks on this team. Chase is practicing again, but I think he is more susceptible to an injury now. And if he is out, Burrow will also suffer. Achane is going to win a few weeks on his own, but having Achane as almost a hero RB puts a lot of pressure on him to have a great season. Then Kirk at WR3 seems a but lackluster since he only finished above WR26 once in his 6 season career. What really gives me pause is the hope later in the draft. Brian Thomas and a bunch of RBs could find some value through the season. But for now I have them in the bottom.
GarrettMills - 12th Pick (Minor Leagues - Playoffs)
This team picked their way through the draft to gain value at multiple positions. Kyler Murray at the 1-2 turn seems really good for someone with top 5 QB upside. After locking up 2 RBs early, this team went for 4 WRs in rounds 4-8. London, Kupp, Dell, and Rice all have promise this season. Then the real key is the double TE at the 11-12 turn. Schultz and Hockenson offer a nice late round pair that could really pay off into the 2nd half the season. I feel like this team is strong all around and should be a top team this year.
